Undocumented RF protocols, turned into a living spec.

For a global automation leader, Better Devices reverse-engineered more than 50 undocumented legacy analog RF protocols, no documentation, no reference hardware, using high-bandwidth signal capture, first-principles analysis, and an SDR-based reference implementation. The result was an executable “living spec” that let hardware, firmware, and software teams develop in parallel.

The approach
01
Capture High-bandwidth signal capture on real hardware, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, SDRs.
02
Decode First-principles analysis with Python/MATLAB signal processing to recover message structure.
03
Implement An SDR-based reference implementation that confirmed the decoded protocol.
04
Specify A living, executable spec that three teams developed against in parallel.

50 undocumented RF protocols, decoded and shipped in one platform

A global leader in automation needed its next-generation product to interoperate with decades of legacy field equipment none of it documented, none of it supported. Better Devices reverse engineered the signals and delivered a working embedded platform in four months.
